VG is great if you like a spammy rotation. You'll be clicking buttons constantly. Cooldowns, abilities, off-cooldown abilities in between other abilities, etc. It has very high damage, but very little in the way of defensive cooldowns.
As such, it's a pretty hard class to play in PvP if that's your thing. If you can make it work, you can be a nightmare. If not, you're cannon fodder no pun intended. As for the Commando's cannon, I completely agree that it looks beyond dumb with most of them. Referral link. You might enjoy these 7 days of free subscription time.
Sylriana Sobekeus Commando healer works fine without the cannon. Or go Mercenary and be one with the awesome. SteveTheCynic Quote: Originally Posted by Sobekeus. I started with a new Mercenary and Commando. Commando is level 36 Mercenary is level 70 gear score I have several items. A perk of the Commando over the Mercenary is the Commando accuracy is easier since he is not a duel wielding type so you dont have to invest more points into it for more offhand hits.
My first character is Vanguard and it works well what it does. The melee option is nice as Vanguard. You can duel against jedis for example in close quarters. And tank ofc. That said I feel its less flexible and has less utility that commando or my newest atl JK. You tank mobs or dish dps to single target zig zaggin near target.
It can be better choice in pve to dish damage from afar. Healing is also petty powerful especially in pvp. Vanguard is good if you want to tank or like close quarter survivability.
Philosomanic So it's very viable for an Assault Vanguard to play from 10m away, but if you care about damage at all you won't get any further. Also, Vanguard's interrupt is melee range.
A good Vanguard is at 10m when fighting melee classes, in melee when fighting ranged classes, and in melee for PvE. If you want a ranged class, play a Commando. If you want a melee class with some ranged flexibility, play a Vanguard. TheronFett My main is a Powertech Vanguard mirror , and currently have a L45 Vanguard, as I'll eventually make the complete switch to Republic.
I also have 2 other L50 characters, Operative and Juggernaut. My observations: Vanguard is extremely versatile. You can tank or damage effectively, and both DPS trees offer very different play styles.
The best thing Vanguard has going for it, especially in PvP, is mobility. You can be effective no matter what your distance to the target is. It's not because of too much damage or burst though we have a lot.
