User Info: WFO As others have said, crafting is definitely worth it Once you have at least one character at 70, it becomes much easier to craft gear for your other characters as you level them. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it on your first character as your leveling to Craft a piece here and there if you need to, but keep accumulating as many materials as possible and also upgrade the blacksmith and jeweler whenever you can.
It takes some time to upgrade the blacksmith and jeweler, but you'll need to eventually anyway. Once you hit 70, crafting can be very important to character progression. That's the endgame goal, finding the gear you need to make your character as strong as possible. Crafting plays an important role in that progression in my opinion.
User Info: GSenjou. It's not necessary at all, but you should at least craft a better weapon whenever you can. It'll save you alot of trouble. FGO: Aoba ,, So, I crafted some pieces of armor and I found a better piece a legendary one, to boot in the next dungeon. But that's the beauty and woe of random loot, I guess. Anyway, so far I've salvaged every piece of equipment I didn't need never sold anything.
I'll craft something here and there, when I feel I'm falling behind and random loot isn't providing me good stuff. Seeing as crafting truly takes off at level 70, I suppose it's better to don't spend too much money and too many materials until then.

There are also some endgame builds that use some of the crafted set pieces. Each salvaged item yields different materials based on your level and the quality of the item.
