Victor is the captain of the Tangerine soccer team. He's passionate about soccer and his friends, and great at motivating them to do their best. He has a habit of giving everyone a nickname, whether they want one or not, like Fisher Man, Cesar Salad, and Charlie the Tuna. Even though he loves ragging on his friends, his insults and praises are super smart—he calls Joey a negative integer at one point, while Cesar becomes Julius Caesar, emperor of Rome.
Antoine is the star quarterback on the Lake Windsor football team. We know he's a good guy, because he helps Luis up when he sees him get hurt by Arthur and Erik. He's actually playing for Lake Windsor illegally, because he doesn't live in that district, and eventually he 'fesses up.
And he's also the first one to tell the police about Arthur killing Luis. Antoine's little sister is as good an athlete as he is. She plays goalie on the Tangerine soccer team, but she has to keep a low profile to avoid drawing attention to her brother's illegal address. The Thomases give us another example of a family that actually helps each other out unlike the Fishers.
We don't know much about her—but we're definitely team Theresa. Gino is the captain of the Lake Windsor soccer team. He's a great player, and is kind to Paul even when they're playing against each other.
Tina and Paige are Arthur and Erik's girlfriends. They don't really like they boys, but they wanted to date football players. He is cruel. Mom Mrs. She grew up in a military family. She drives a Volvo wagon. Dad Mr. He drives a Range Rover. During the story, he becomes its Director. Mike Costello He was chosen by Coach Warner to be backup quarterback. He is killed by lightning. He is heavyset. Paige Bauer Arthur Bauer's sister. She is a cheerleader and a sophomore.
He is a major in the Army National Guard. He is a building contractor. He grows tangerines and other citrus fruit. He has developed a new tangerine. He gets suspended for three days because of something that happens at the carnival.
Joey becomes very upset when Mike dies but continues to date and attend school. So, he returns to Lake Windsor Middle School. He is a lineman, and then becomes the number two quarterback.
In early September, Mike dies during football practice when he is struck by lightning while leaning against a goalpost. He walks with a limp because of a childhood work accident with the clippers used to harvest tangerines, but he played goalie for his school soccer teams. Theresa Cruz is a student at Tangerine Middle School. She is a good student and leads Paul around on his first days at Tangerine. He is also the twin brother of Theresa, the brother of Luis, and the son of Tomas Cruz.
Tino does not like to back down from a challenge, and he does not fear the consequences of inflicting retribution. He is suspended several times during the school year for his actions. Tomas Cruz is the owner of the grove and nursery where his oldest son, Luis, works. He is also the father of Tino and Theresa. A student at Lake Windsor Middle School, he is arguably the best player on their soccer team. Henry Dilkes, also known as Henry D. He plays soccer and is in the class project group with Paul, Tino, and Theresa.
Henry is a good friend to the Cruz twins as well as Paul. The brother of Henry D. Bill Donnelly, often called Mr. Donnelly by Paul, lives in his development. His home has been hit by lightning three times, making it impossible to sell and insure it, so he has ten lightning rods along the roof. Donnelly also is the father of Terry Donnelly and works as a reporter.
Donnelly is also a University of Florida booster and attempts to help Erik and Mr. Fisher by introducing them to other boosters. He plays football at Lake Windsor High School. Caroline Fisher is the mother of Paul and Erik, and the wife of Mr. She does drive him most places, though, and takes charge of dealing with his schools and buying him clothes. If there is a problem, Caroline makes a call or holds a meeting at her home.
