One of the many treasures players will need to find during the 30 hours of game time of Skyward Sword HD will be the Evil Crystals, which are used in several upgrades. Materials in Skyward Sword are broken down into two main categories: Bugs and Treasures. Bug are catchable critters that players will need a bug net for and Treasures are basically everything else. Like most of the other materials, the Evil Crystals are needed for several upgrades during the game.
There are many sources for the Evil Crystals that players will need to complete all the upgrades. Thankfully, players will get several more of them than they will need and can sell the other for Rupees to buy other needed materials from Rupin and the Moonlight Merchant.
The cursed Bokoblins can be found in the lower level of the Ancient Cistern Dungeon if you want to defeat a lot of them to farm the Crystals. They must be defeated with a fatal blow. Black lizards can be found in Fire Sanctuary and Sky Dungeon, but they are difficult to defeat, so this is not a preferred method of growing crystals. If you decide to farm crystals by defeating enemies, you should use the treasure medal in your adventure bag to increase the chances of them falling.
Although defeating enemies is the best way to find this material, keep in mind that there is also the option to buy them with rubies. Play the harp near the butterflies to make it look like a gossip stone and it will sell you rare materials for a lot of rubies.
So what are evil crystals used for upgrading? You can take them to the junk shop in Skyloft Bazaar to upgrade the bug net into the big bug net.
